KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A local Chiefs fan went above and beyond to make sure the team is well-rested for the playoffs. After Sunday’s blizzard left the Metro covered in a blanket of snow, cornerback Jaylen Watson posted on X asking if anyone had a spare shovel he could borrow.

“Whatever you need, please do not try to do this yourself,” William Mashburn said. “You’re good at football. You stick to that, and I will help you with the snow.” Mashburn replied, offering the Georgia-native a hand.

“The Chiefs give us a lot over our whole lives, and we just have these guys here for a very short period,” he said. “They’re young guys. They’re giving us a lot. They’re not from here. They’re not necessarily stocked up with everything that you need to deal with winter weather. We are. So as part of the community, while you’re here, I want you to feel as welcome as possible. Simple, little things can do that.”

The two exchanged messages. About five hours later, Mashburn was on his way to help.

“He pointed me to the problem, and 30 minutes later or so it was done,” Mashburn said. “He was very appreciative.”

Watson surprised Mashburn with an autographed jersey, with a note reading: “To William. Thanks for the help + . Go Chiefs!!”

“That was the first thing he did when I got out of the truck,” Mashburn said. “I’m like, ‘Oh, wow. That’s awesome.’ I did not see that coming.”

Watson has been sidelined since Week 7 with an ankle injury. Head coach Andy Reid hinted at a possible return in time for the playoffs, and the Chiefs reportedly opened his practice window last week.

So, did Kansas City’s newest Chiefs insider get the latest scoop?

“He said he’s feeling well,” Mashburn smiled. “He’s feeling good.”
