Firefighters rescue horse from icy pond
LOVELAND, Colo. (KKTV/Gray News) – Firefighters in Colorado rescued a horse stuck in icy waters Thursday.
The Loveland Fire Rescue Authority shared photos of the daring rescue on Facebook.
Firefighters said the horse found its way through a fence and onto a frozen pond near South County Road 13 in Loveland.
The ice couldn’t hold the weight of the horse, and it fell into the frigid waters below.
Firefighters hopped into the water wearing ice suits and broke a path back to the shoreline using axes and sledgehammers.
They successfully got the horse back to shore and out of the cold water.
“The rescued horse was warming up and recovering as crews picked up equipment and returned to service,” Loveland Fire Rescue Authority said.
Firefighters said the Berthoud Fire Protection District, Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, Thompson Valley Emergency Medical Services and the City of Loveland Water and Power Department assisted with the rescue.
