Iowa Street in Lawrence is getting a facelift; completion expected by the end of the year
Lawrence, KS (KCTV) - Iowa Street along the west campus area of Lawrence will look a lot different by this time next year. The City of Lawrence says the project spans from 23rd street to Irving Hill Road.
The plan calls for rebuilding the roadway with new concrete, curbs and gutters; a new sidewalk along the east side of Iowa street; drainage upgrades and updated lighting.
Construction is set to start this month, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
The city says it will kekep at least one travel lane in each direction open throughout the project, but residents should anticipate temporary land closures and sidewalk detrours.
“We fully understand the importance of Iowa Street as a vital corridor for our community,” said Aaron Parker, Senior Project Engineer. “These improvements are critical for maintaining the safety and efficiency of our infrastructure, and we are so thankful for the patience and understanding of our residents as we bring this vision to life.”
