KEARNEY, Mo. (KCTV) - A business owner is accused of turning an 85,000 pound crane into a weapon and targeting Clay County Sheriff’s deputies.

Deputies arrived at LPG Ventures in Kearney, Mo., Thursday morning to execute a court order. Deputies were in the process of seizing property so it could be sold to pay a judgement in a recent civil case.

A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said they believe August J. Baanders, the owner of the business, snuck onto the property after deputies secured it. They said Baanders jumped into an 85,000 pound crane. Deputies said they feared for their lives when he allegedly drove the crane toward them.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office shared the following thermal camera video of his arrest.

The sheriff’s office also provided the following drone video of deputies arresting Baanders.

The deputies stopped the crane at gunpoint. Officers said the Baanders resisted arrest as they tried to take him into custody.

Baanders, 64, is charged with interference with a legal process. The charge is a misdemeanor.

No on was injured in the incident.
