Kansas man awaits extradition for human trafficking after Missouri arrest
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A Kansas man accused of human trafficking has been found and arrested in Kansas City, Missouri, as he now awaits extradition.
Jackson County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Tuesday, Jan. 21, indicated that Yahir Van Vollenhoven, 25, of Overland Park, has been taken into custody in connection to a human trafficking charge filed in Kansas.
Court documents noted that a waiver of extradition was filed on Tuesday for Van Vollenhoven to return to Douglas County, Kansas, to face a charge of human trafficking.
The Lawrence, Kansas, Police Department told KCTV5 that in January 2022, law enforcement officials were notified that a runaway juvenile from another city may have been in the area. The child was quickly found and taken to safety.
Investigators said they learned that the child had flown into the area with a plane ticket allegedly bought by Van Vollenhoven. Allegations of a sexual nature were also made, however, due to the ongoing investigation, no further information has been released.
As of Wednesday, Van Vollenhoven remains behind bars in Jackson County with no bond on hold for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. No further information has been released.
