LAWRENCE, Kan. (KCTV) - The future look of David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium is starting to get clearer. Kansas Athletics shared renderings and details Wednesday about unique seat designs at the soon-to-be renovated stadium.

KU, which is seven months and a day away from hosting its first game in the revamped version of the stadium, said detailed designs and state-of-the-art seating will be on display at the completion of the project.

“The seating will feature the ‘K Flag’ design in the north bowl of the stadium, with ‘Rock Chalk’ on the view level of the west side of the stadium.

KU also said under the new design every seat on the north and west sides of the stadium will be seatbacks instead of bleachers. Fans will see a 50 percent increase in area per seat, per KU. Suites, also located on the north and west sides of the stadium, will also be 80 feet closer to the field than in the previous design of the stadium.

Seats will also be higher off the field than they were pre-renovation. KU said the first row of seating will be four feet higher off the field for improved viewing. That will also include 2,300 club seats in three different club spaces throughout the stadium.

KU Athletics said all seating -- except 160 seats -- will be installed by Irwin Seating Company, which has worked on 23 of 32 NHL arenas 18 of 29 NBA arenas, 18 of 30 NFL stadiums and 20 of 30 MLB stadiums. The seating will be designed and installed by DreamSeat.

Renderings showing the design and installation for the seats are finalized, but the field design has not been finalized yet. KU said any current renderings or pictures showing the field are incomplete.
