Kansas City Power & Light District prep for AFC Championship game
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Kansas City Power & Light District expects hundreds of fans to show up for the seventh straight year to watch the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game.
Fans showed up there last weekend to watch the Chiefs beat the Houston Texans in the AFC Divisional despite the cold. Many people braved the elements outside near-standing heaters that were provided but many packed in bars like Johnny’s Tavern.
Johnny’s Tavern co-owner Kyle Witherspoon said they were at full capacity around noon on Saturday despite kickoff being at 3:30 p.m. He expects a similar turnout for this big matchup against the Buffalo Bills including of the Bills Mafia showing up.
“We’ve been fortunate enough to do it a few times and so a lot of it is, what can we do a little bit better? But, a lot of it, we have the bones of the plan to get it done,” he said.

Witherspoon still believes there will be a large turnout regardless of the up-front cost and the vibes will be a fun, celebratory atmosphere for the entire day especially because the Chiefs are the second game of the day following the Washington Commanders vs. Philadelphia Eagles.
“It’s crazy to think it’s seven in a row, right?” he said. “How fortunate the city is and the excitement building up.”
Bills Mafia will start arriving at Kansas City International Airport on Friday, but on Sunday, it’ll be another sea of red at P&L.
“Unlock the doors and let the magic happen and now it’s just, hey, let’s get a win and get to February. Play football in February.”
