Man taken into custody after knife pulled on Lawrence officer
LAWRENCE, Kan. (KCTV) - One man was taken into custody after he pulled a knife on a police officer following a disturbance in a Lawrence grocery store.
The Lawrence, Kansas, Police Department says that around 11:40 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23, crews were called to the Dillon’s on 6th St. near Wakarusa Dr. with reports of a disturbance.
When they arrived, they found a 37-year-old man walking in the middle of the street near Champion Ln. and 6th St. As officers exited their vehicles, the suspect began to approach despite being told to stop.
Law enforcement officials noted that the man then pulled a knife from his sleeve. The officers drew their weapons as they retreated and called for backup. Eventually, the man was safely taken into custody.
Investigators indicated that due to statements of prescription drug abuse, he was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Upon his release, he is expected to be booked into the Douglas Co. Correctional Facility.
No further information, including the suspect’s identity, has been released yet.
