Police urge residents to use stations for Facebook Marketplace transactions
LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. (KCTV) - A man was trying to sell his iPad to make a few extra bucks through Facebook Marketplace when he was pepper sprayed and robbed by two women last Friday, January 17th.
The meeting took place in a business parking lot around 7 p.m. at 3351 SW 3rd Street in Lee’s Summit.
After handing the iPad over and trying to conduct the sale through Venmo one of the women grabbed the man’s arm and pepper sprayed him in the face, according to court documents.
While being pepper sprayed, the other woman began driving, dragging the man through the parking lot. The woman on the enger side of the car began hitting the man in the face, pepper spraying him again, causing him to drop his phone in the car before the alleged thieves drove out of the parking lot.
The court documents also say security footage from a business nearby showed some of the altercation.
Suffering from multiple injuries the man was taken to the hospital, and his girlfriend used GPS to locate the phone he dropped in the thief’s car.
Police located the suspects, the driver and the enger, Daqrtiona Rollins, and tried to stop them at a gas station in Kansas City. They led police on a chase that ended in their arrest in Kansas. During a search of the vehicle, they recovered pepper spray and a handgun.
During interviews with police, the suspects itted to stealing other items after negotiating to meet up with sellers through Facebook Marketplace in Kansas City, Independence, Overland Park and Lee’s Summit.
“These individuals were involved in several robberies, a couple here in Overland Park,” Overland Park Police PIO John Lacy said.
