2 children found dead, trapped in ice-covered Linn County lake
LINN COUNTY, Kan. (KCTV) - On Tuesday, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) announced the tragic deaths of two children the night before.
According to a statement, around 8 p.m. on Jan. 27, deputies were called to the Lake Chaparral community in rural Linn County. Two children had not been seen for several hours and were reported missing.
The Linn County deputies called in additional help to find the children, who they believed to be somewhere near one of the community’s lakes.
Using an aerial drone, LCSO found the children’s bodies in the lake, trapped under the ice. The Overland Park Fire Department’s dive team was called to help pull them from the frigid water.
Since the children were under the age of 18, law enforcement will not publicly release their identities. The incident remains under investigation.
