LEXINGTON, Mo. (KCTV) - One person is dead after straying into oncoming traffic on US Route 24, causing a serious crash late Sunday night.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 11 p.m. on Jan. 26 in Lafayette County.

A 34-year-old man from Lexington, Missouri, was driving east on US 24 when he crossed the center line. His 2012 Chevrolet Sonic hit a 1996 Ford Explorer head-on, sending the Chevrolet off the side of the road and causing the Ford to flip upside down.

MSHP reported that the 34-year-old in the Chevrolet was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin has been notified.

The Ford was carrying four engers, all of whom were injured:

  • The 19-year-old driver from Gladstone was seriously injured.
  • A 26-year-old enger from Alabama was moderately injured.
  • A 22-year-old enger from Gladstone had minor injuries.
  • An infant boy under the age of one had minor injuries.

All four were reportedly wearing their seatbelts and were taken to an area hospital for treatment.
