OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (KCTV) - “Firefighters show up to work each day not knowing to what they may be called,” the Overland Park Fire Department said Tuesday, and it wasn’t a lie.

On Jan. 28, crews were called to a farm to help rescue a horse that was stuck in mud and “too exhausted to free itself.” The owner and vet couldn’t get the 27-year-old named Renaissance out on their own, so a whole team of firefighters arrived to pitch in.

Using sawdust, ropes and several helping hands, Renaissance was pulled to safety and brought back to the barn.
