GLADSTONE, Mo. (KCTV) - Over the years, food has become a central part of each Chiefs’ playoff run. Often, sweet treats and barbecue are the focus of attention, but what about gourmet deli sandwiches?

“We’re a scratch kitchen, so everything is fresh,” says Italian Sausage Company owner, Joe Brancato.

The family-owned restaurant in Gladstone helped feed some key Chiefs defenders during last year’s Super Bowl run. Now, they help feed the Chiefs Kingdom every game day.

“We make everything fresh every week, from the alfredo to the sausage, to everything that we offer here,” Brancato said. “It’s not coming in frozen.”

Last year, the Northland eatery became a favorite of Chiefs’ All-Pro Defensive Tackle, Chris Jones. Number 95 often ordered the “71″ -- a giant corned beef and pastrami sandwich that the restaurant made in collaboration with former Chiefs’ offensive lineman, Mitchell Schwartz.

“He would get that before almost every game and then leading off into the playoffs and up to the Super Bowl. It was a popular sandwich between those guys and the locker room,” said Brancato. “It was nerve-wracking and exciting at the same time to know that you are getting ready to feed a good chunk of the guys.”

In addition to their Gladstone restaurant, the Italian Sausage Company also has locations at both Arrowhead and Kauffman Stadium. One of their new gameday staples is the “Jabroni” sandwich that the Chiefs Kingdom orders religiously on Sundays.

“It’s your Italian cold-cut sandwich on a big 3-foot loaf of bread. It’s awesome. It’s fun to talk about,” Brancato said. “We’re still waiting for Kelce to come in for this. It started because of him.”
