KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - As the Kansas City Chiefs continue their preparation for a third straight Super Bowl appearance, the AFC teams left in their wake remain assessing how they lost to the two-time reigning champions.

On Thursday, Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott held an end-of-season press conference in which he recapped the year and assessed the fallout of Sunday night’s AFC Championship Game, which Kansas City won 32-29.

The win for Kansas City eliminated Buffalo from the playoffs for the fourth time in the past five seasons. McDermott and Bills general manager Brandon Beane shared their thoughts on several topics from the game, including the much-discussed 4th and 1 stop of Josh Allen in the fourth quarter.

“We went into the game and one of my messages to the team, and this happens from time to time, is you’re going to have to -- you’re not going to get calls,” McDermott said. “We’re not going to get calls. And I think just when you prepare a team, you prepare them ahead of time, mentally, for this is the way it’s going down. And you live with that.”

McDermott then claimed “that’s not the reason we lost,” but followed a similar tone to Houston Texans head coach Demeco Ryans following Houston’s AFC Divisional loss to the Chiefs.

“We knew going into this game, man, it was us versus everybody,” Ryans said following Houston’s 23-14 loss on Jan. 18. “When I say everybody, I mean everybody.”

In total, the Bills were flagged 6 times for 48 yards and the Chiefs were flagged 5 times for 21 yards.

Buffalo did have the ball with 3:33 remaining in the fourth quarter trailing by 3 points. MVP hopeful quarterback Josh Allen and the Bills offense ran 6 plays and accumulated 17 yards before a 4th and 5 incompletion ended their hopes.
