NFL star gifts local Army veteran Super Bowl trip
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A professional football player has given a KC-area Army veteran the trip of a lifetime.
Saints player Cam Jordan teamed up with the USAA and Wounded Warrior Project to gift Sergeant Keara Torkelson and her husband a trip to Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.
“Our military gives so much for us, and having family of my own that have served, I always have the greatest appreciation for our veterans,” said Cam Jordan. “Sgt. Keara Torkelson is an incredible example of what it means to serve, and her story has both touched and inspired me.”
Torkelson, a Purple Heart and Meritorious Service Medal recipient, served for almost a decade in the U.S. Army Reserve. During her time in service, she was a victim of the Fort Hood shooting. Torkelson suffered gunshot wounds to her back and head when she then medically retired due to her injuries.
Torkelson and her husband will meet with current and former NFL players at the USAA Salute to Service Lounge before attending the game.
