School district receives false threat before armed KCK bank robbery
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) - A bank robbery in Kansas City, Kansas, followed a false threat called into a school district, leading to a lockdown Friday morning.
At 9:40 a.m. on Friday, KCKPD received a call that an armed individual wearing a bulletproof vest had entered an elementary school in the Kansas City, Kansas School District.
Shortly after the call, the US Bank at 10995 Parallel Parkway near the Legends was robbed. After the robbery, the suspect fled the US bank near the Legends in a silver Ford Escape.

Law enforcement officials believe the call about the armed individual entering the school was a false report made to lead police resources away from the bank.
The Piper School District notified families of the incident after locking down schools in the district, stating there is no credible threat to the schools.

“The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority,” said a statement. “While there was never a direct threat to Piper schools, we take every situation seriously and will always err on the side of caution.
The robbery is under investigation. The FBI said a suspect is approximately 6-foot-5, 250 pounds and was wearing a dark, hooded sweatshirt, a neon mask and sunglasses at the time of the robbery.
Authorities said the suspect displayed a handgun and made a demand of money before leaving the area with an undisclosed amount of money.
