NEW ORLEANS (KCTV) — As the Kansas City Chiefs attempt to make history on Sunday, one attendee is expected to make history of his own.

President Donald Trump is expected to be in attendance Sunday for Super Bowl LIX between the Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles, according to reports from several national media outlets.

On Wednesday, three-time Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes said it’ll be cool to play in front of the Commander in Chief.

“It’s always cool to be able to play in front of a sitting president,” Mahomes said ahead of his fifth Super Bowl appearance. “Someone that is at the top position in our country. I didn’t see that clip, but obviously, it’s cool to hear that he’s seen me play football and respects the game that I play.”

Trump didn’t outright say who he will be rooting for as the Chiefs attempt to complete a Super Bowl three-peat, but did say, “there’s a certain quarterback that seems to be a pretty good winner.”

The 47th President did send a congratulatory post following Kansas City’s AFC Championship win over the Buffalo Bills.

“Congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs,” Trump said on his social media platform, Truth Social. “What a GREAT Team, Coach, Quarterback, and virtually everything else, including those fantastic FANS, that voted for me (MAGA!) in record numbers. Likewise, congratulations to the Buffalo Bills on a tremendous season. They will do a lot of winning long into the future!!!”

While the Chiefs quarterback declined to endorse a Presidential candidate prior to the November election, his mother, Randi, donned a ‘Make America Great Again’ hat prior to a Chiefs Monday Night Football game this year.

Mahomes, at 17-3 as a starting quarterback in the playoffs, has the second-most wins by a quarterback in NFL playoff history. He trails only former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady, who has a relationship with Trump and will be calling the game for FOX.

Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce was also asked about Trump’s attendance.

“That’s awesome,” Kelce said. “It’s a great honor -- no matter who the president is. I’m excited because it’s the biggest game of my life. Having the president there, it’s the best country in the world, so it’ll be pretty cool.”
