CLAY CO., Mo. (KCTV) - A Leavenworth man is behind bars in Missouri after he was met with undercover investigators instead of who he believed to be a 13-year-old girl.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says that on Wednesday night, Feb. 5, law enforcement officials arrested Samuel J. Weisse, 34, of Leavenworth, Kansas, and booked him into jail under a single count of attempted child enticement.

Investigators indicated that Weisse had sent inappropriate messages to an undercover detective he believed to be a 13-year-old girl. The arrest was made in connection to a counter-human trafficking operation.

Law enforcement officials noted that Weisse’s conversation with the undercover agents started on Jan . 23 and continued until Wednesday night. He allegedly made arrangements to meet who he believed to be the teen.

Instead, deputies said they took Weisse into custody at the meet-up location. As of Thursday, he remains behind bars on a $25,000 bond.
