KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Extreme enthusiasm is welcomed in Kansas City when rooting for the Chiefs.

Not so much in California.

“Everyone is either excited for us or not,” Leavenworth, Kansas, native Melissa Etheridge said.

The singer-songwriter may have the Golden State residency attached to her name now but she says her hometown pride will never fade.

Especially as the Chiefs aim to win their third consecutive Super Bowl on Sunday.

“I was born with it,” she chuckled. “I went through 50 years of not being in the Super Bowl or the playoffs sometimes. So, I am enjoying every drop of this.”

So much so, Etheridge has moved her excitement to her front yard.

“I have my [Chiefs Kingdom] flags flying in front of my house,” the singer said.

Despite living in a neighborhood full of Los Angeles Rams players and coaches, Etheridge proudly flies her Chiefs flag.

“Sean McVay, Cooper Kupp, and Matthew Stafford,” she went on with a smile of her Rams neighbors. “My house is right on the gate as you are going out. So, there are these big Chiefs flags there. It is incredible!”

Etheridge says she waits until the Chiefs advance to the Super Bowl before pulling out her flags.

But she is considering adding another if the Chiefs win Sunday.

Etheridge will not be in the Big Easy for the big game.

But when asked if she will make her way to KC if the Chiefs win, she said there is a possibility.

Super Bowl LIX is set for February 9 at 5:30 p.m. CT.
