Overland Park seniors bring their A-game for Chiefs pep rally, bet against Philly community
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (KCTV) — On Thursday, Brookdale Overland Park 119th residents got the chance to cheer on the Chiefs and make a friendly bet ahead of Sunday’s big game.
This is year three of hosting an extravagant pep rally at Brookdale Overland Park 119th.
The resident sent a video back to their sister community in Philadelphia, Brookdale Evesham ahead of the big game, showing off their pep rally.
Whoever’s team loses on Sunday will have to send a video to the other community, congratulating them on their win.
“Residents love it they’ve been Chiefs fans their entire lives and it is so worth giving them these kinds of memories this is something they are going to go and talk to their families about and this is something they will forever,” said Brookdale Overland Park 119th Executive Director, Jessica Arenholz.
They had their very own residents dress up as some favorites from the team; Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Chris Jones, and Andy Reid.
“As Chris Jones would say I am second and God is first,” said Brookdale Overland Park resident who played Jones, Wendell Derritt.
One resident was chosen to play Isaiah Pacheco as they share some similar speed.
“He is a great player and I enjoyed this and they always say I run around like an idiot like he does anyway here so that is why I was chosen,” said Brookdale Overland Park 119th resident, Larry Knackstedt.
They even had their very own Chiefs owner, Clark Hunt, played by Doug Dimmel.
Seen wearing a familiar red coat, Dimmel said his father, Charles Dimmel, was one of the original Chiefs Red Coaters.
“They were challenged by Lamar to sell 200 season tickets each to bring the team here well they came up short, but Lamar liked that group of men so well he said I’m gonna move the team up here anyway,” said Dimmel. He added, “I’m blessed by his involvement we have been season ticket holders ever since they moved here in the early sixties.”
They said a former Chiefs cheerleader lives at Brookdale Overland Park 119th too.
“It is just really fun to hear what the Chiefs were like 20 years ago versus now or 30 years from now and just trying to bring that youth back to here back to Brookdale for them it has been amazing,” said Arenholz.

Singing, dancing, and a surprise visit by a Philly Eagle, these residents are ready to cheer on the Chiefs come Sunday.
“When we win which Dorthy says we are, we are going to win yes! It is sports history people for decades people are going to be talking about this game every January,” said Brookdale Overland Park 119th Residents, Dorthy Taylor and John Swarts.
“Real history, to think that we are living in it that is the most awesome part about it we are part of it,” said Brookdale Overland Park 119th Resident, Leilani Pitcher.
The residents said every TV will be on this Sunday as they cheer on the Kansas City Chiefs.
