Man killed during Olathe shooting identified as 28-year-old from Independence

OLATHE, Kan. (KCTV) - The man who was killed during an overnight shooting at an Olathe apartment complex has been identified as a 28-year-old from Independence.

The Olathe, Kansas, Police Department announced on Friday, Feb. 7, that investigators have identified the victim of a homicide reported earlier in the week as Eduardo E. Portillo, 28, of Independence.

Law enforcement officials said they were called to the area of W. 127th St. and S. Arapaho Dr., at the Wingfield Apartments, around 10:15 p.m. on Tuesday with reports of a shooting. When first responders arrived, they found Portillo suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

The Police Department indicated that Portillo was taken to a nearby hospital, however, he was ultimately declared deceased as a result of his injuries.
