KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - As the Chiefs prepare for their third Super Bowl, one Northland family has kept up their Christmas lights to celebrate the team’s postseason success.

“We started with a very small Christmas light show back in 2018, 2019 and we just built it up from then,” said Jeremy Meythaler. “When the Chiefs started having their postseason success, we said hey, let’s keep the light show going after Christmas and celebrate the Chiefs with it.”

Meythaler moved to Kansas City in 2005 and has been cheering on the Chiefs ever since.

“We went from years and years of mediocre play to all of a sudden, we’re going for maybe three Super Bowl wins in a row,” said Meythaler. “You couldn’t ask for much more than that.”

“I grew up with a grandpa and had a big Christmas light display,” said Lindsay Meythaler. “When we met and he said he liked Christmas lights, it was a no-brainer. When the Chiefs started doing better than before, he asked about the Chiefs arrowheads that we now have outside. I said I’ll paint them, let’s do it. Let’s have a Chiefs light show too. Why not?”

The whole family is involved in the setup; Lindsay says it’s a special tradition they now have.

“It’s something as a family that we have, it’s our thing,” said Lindsay. “It’s a lot of fun. If I said we weren’t putting up the Christmas lights next year, I don’t know what the kids would do.”

The display has not only been a hit in the neighborhood, the community also loves it.

“They are very ive,” said Lindsay. “People will roll their windows down and say, ‘Go Chiefs!’ and tell us they love our light show, that they come by for Christmas and Chiefs postseason. It’s exciting. It’s nice that it brings joy to more than just our family.”

Twelve-year-old Landon its it’s hard to set it up, even harder to take it down, but says it’s worth it.

“You have to know where all the wires are supposed to go,” said Landon. “I programmed two songs for Christmas and two songs for the Chiefs. It takes a lot of work to program it. Tell Everyone by Tech N9ne and Take It Back by Blane Howard.”

The Kansas City Police Department shared a video of the lights on social media this week, showcasing the display set to a song every Chiefs fan knows: Red Kingdom by Tech N9ne.

“It’s pretty cool seeing everyone’s reactions,” said Landon. “We see people rolling down their windows. There were a couple of kids last year that came out and started dancing in our driveway. It was pretty cool to see that.”

The display is now up to around 15,000 lights and they plan to add to it next year.

“Takes about a month to set it up and sometimes it seems like it’s even longer to take it down,” said Meythaler. “We have to have a storage unit to store it all, but it’s worth it.”

When asked what’s going to happen on Sunday, the family all agrees: A Chiefs win, with Landon predicting the final score to be 34-31.
