Tips lead to arrest of 20-year-old accused of driving stolen car in high-speed chase

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - On Monday, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office shared about an arrest made thanks to the help of community tips.
According to a report, a Mustang with a fake vanity plate reading “QUIET” fled from a Kansas City Police Department officer around 11 p.m. on Jan. 29. Clay County deputies soon found the same car driving near 152 Highway and Church Road and tried to pull it over, but it kept driving.
The deputies started pursuing the Mustang as it drove through red lights and hit their tire deflation devices, but they called the chase off once it entered a construction zone. They were unable to find the car again that night and had no information on the driver.

The next day, however, two people who had seen the chase reached out to police with tips. Their information helped detectives ultimately identify the driver as 20-year-old Kaleb A. McCloud of Kansas City, Missouri.
McCloud was served an arrest warrant on Feb. 10, 2025, and is in Clay County custody on a $40,000 bond. He faces one charge of felony aggravated fleeing from a stop.
Investigators also learned that the Mustang was stolen and the “QUIET” vanity plate they saw on it was transferred between it and another non-stolen vehicle.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office expressed its gratitude to the people who came forward and helped solve the case.
“Thanks to alert of our community, a man who is charged with willfully disregarding the safety of the drivers around him will face consequences.”
