WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - A new congressional task that will focus on the declassification of “government secrets” was announced on Tuesday on Capitol Hill.

House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) established the task force, which is called the “Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets.” Its mission is to “examine the declassification of materials in the public interest.”

“Last month, President Trump signed an executive order to begin the process to declassify information on the assassinations of JFK, RFK, and MLK. This task force serves to build on President Trump’s actions for far too long,” said Rep. Comer.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) will lead the bipartisan group of lawmakers that will make up the task force. She said it will bring Americans “answers they deserve.”

“For too long, the American spirit has been dimmed by veil secrecy, by a government that has grown too comfortable in the shadows, denying us the transparency we deserve,” said Rep. Luna. “But today, we stand at the dawn of a new era where the light of truth begins to shine through.”

In addition to looking into records about the three assassinations, the task force will investigate the Jeffery Epstein client list, COVID-19 origins, the 9/11 files, unidentified aerial phenomena and unidentified submerged objects.

The task force will be authorized for six months. A press release said that of the task force will be announced at a later date.

“This will no longer be a task force that makes bold promises, only to fade into irrelevance or send strongly worded letters. This will be a relentless pursuit of truth and transparency, and we will not stop until until the American people have the answers they deserve,” said Rep. Luna.

Rep. Comer and Rep. Luna said 11 letters were sent out to various government agencies on Tuesday morning to begin the task force’s efforts to declassify information.
