ATLANTA, Ga. (WANF/AP/Gray News) - Former Kansas City Chiefs and Cleveland Browns wide receiver Kadarius Toney was arrested last week after allegedly strangling a woman in Douglas County, police said.

Toney, 26, was arrested on Feb. 6 on multiple charges, including aggravated assault for strangulation and obstructing/harassing 911 calls, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

He was released the same day on $50,000 bail, according to a person who answered the phone at the jail.

Toney put his hand around a woman’s throat “with enough force to cause her to be unable to breath(e)” on Jan. 14 at his home in Douglasville, about 20 miles west of Atlanta, according to an arrest warrant filed in court.

An investigator wrote that red marks were visible on the woman’s neck, as well as hemorrhaging in her eyes.

Toney also physically prevented the woman from calling 911, taking away her phone and canceling voice commands while physically assaulting her, a second warrant says.

Toney was the New York Giants' first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

He played in just three games during the 2024 season with the Browns after winning two Super Bowls with Kansas City in 2022 and 2023.

Toney was released by Cleveland on Dec. 10 and is currently a free agent.

In four seasons, Toney logged 82 receptions for 760 yards and three touchdowns.
