KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - One year ago, residents across the city heard a call to help local blood donation centers and responded. This served a critical need following the shooting at the Super Bowl parade in 2024 that claimed the life of one and injured nearly two dozen more.

The Community Blood Center KC is holding a drive to not only reflect on this day one year back but also highlight the call that went into the community.

That day brought in so many returning and new donors CBCKC Director of Public Relations, Chelsey Smith, said they were able to restock and keep moving forward with plenty of blood on hand.

However, 2025 hasn’t brought the same community .

“This year’s inventory looks a little bit different. We’ve had lots, lots of negative winter weather that has impacted our blood supply. So we’re hopeful that donors are going to come out, help us replenish what we currently don’t have on our shelves so that patients aren’tIt’s gonna go without,” Smith said.

There are some empty shelves around the donation center, paired with empty donation beds it is a concerning spot to be. Smith says right now they are looking for any donors, new or returning. It’s an even greater call for anyone with Type O Blood, this is able to be widely used and accepted.
