“The Kansas Turnpike (KTA): This is a final reminder regarding the unpaid toll from your trip,” the scam text reads. “A $15 daily overdue fee will be applied if it is not settled today.”

This is an ongoing, nationwide scam, using several states as bait. The FBI is investigating.

We ed the KTA. Spokesperson Jeri Biehler told us the KTA does not send unsolicited texts or emails. The only way you’d get a text from them is if you signed up for the service and then you’d with credentials you created when you signed up.

“Just because they drove on our roads, we don’t know their phone numbers,” said Biehler.

The KTA says the scam isn’t limited to Kansas. People have reported getting the texts from states they hadn’t even traveled in.

The KTA urges anyone who gets texts like this to report it a www.ic3.gov. Biehler said KTA was able to shut down 10-12 sites last fall.
