Ned Yost looking for another title with Royals in return as senior advisor
SURPRISE, Az. (KCTV) - Former Royals manager Ned Yost met with the media Thursday for the first time since being named Senior Advisor to the General Manager. Yost says his job will be to help current manager Matt Quatraro get what he needs to win a World Series.
“My job is to watch and listen best I can,” Yost said. “Watch twice as much, listen twice as much as I speak.”
Yost says he’ll spend most of his time watching players in the minors. He plans to spend 5-6 days a month at both Triple-A and Double-A, and then spend his remaining time watching whoever else the organization needs eyes on.
Yost last worked in baseball in 2019, but he says last year’s Royals postseason run had him itching to get back into the game.
“Being a former manager, I know what Matt needs,” Yost said Thursday. “I know what Matt thinks, I know what to look for to help him in situations, and it has nothing to do with game management.”

Quatraro says Yost will be an invaluable resource to the organization.
“He’s done everything he can do in this game and for him to want to be back and help and contribute – he’s been as selfless as you would expect – I think that fits in perfectly with the theme here and the culture,” said Quatraro.
This season, the Royals will try to build on their best season since 2015 – back when Yost helped guide the team to its second World Series title.
“I want to see the Royals win one more world championship before I die,” said Yost. “They are capable of going out and competing for that championship. I want to see it. I want to be a part of it and help them in any way I can.”
Yost served as the team’s manager from 2010-2019 and is the winningest manager in team history with 746 wins. He was inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame in 2023.
