KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A disappointing end to the three-peat dreams of the Kansas City Chiefs was caught by NFL Films late in Sunday night’s Super Bowl LIX loss.

As Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes walked around the Kansas City sideline, the 29-year-old quarterback spent time shaking hands and offering words of encouragement to several teammates.

After telling several teammates, “we’ll be back,” Mahomes approached tight end Travis Kelce.

“Love you brother,” the quarterback said to his long-time teammate as Kelce concluded his 12th season in the National Football League.

“Forever dawg,” Kelce says. “You know that. I owe you a lot for what you’ve done.”

The moment came near the end of a 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, leaving the Chiefs a game shy of becoming the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls.

It also comes as Kelce contemplates his future in the sport.

“I know everybody wants to know whether I am playing next year and right now I am just kicking everything down the road. I’m kicking every can I can down the road,” Kelce said in the latest episode of the New Heights Podcast he does with his brother Jason. “I’m gonna take some time to figure it out. And I think I owe it to my teammates if I do come back, it’s going to be something, it’s a wholehearted decision, I’m not half-assing it, I’m fully here for them. I think I can play, it’s just whether or not I’m motivated or it’s the best decision for me as a man, as a human, as a person to take on all that responsibility.”

Kelce has one year remaining on his current contract and would be set to make just over $17 million if he returns to the Chiefs for the 2025 season. An $11 million roster bonus is set to kick in on March 14, four days after the new league year begins. That timeframe for a Kelce decision is expected, according to a report from The Athletic’s Nate Taylor.

The Chiefs’ duo has partnered for seven seasons and set countless records in Kansas City and NFL history.
