Man charged with murder in fatal shooting outside southside Kansas City liquor store
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Charges have been filed in a fatal shooting that killed the owner of a south Kansas City convenience store earlier this month.
Kevin L. Herring has been charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in a shooting that killed 64-year-old Zulfiqar Ladhani, aka Joe. He was shot outside Joe’s Liquor & Convenience Store on Monday, Feb. 10.
Kansas City, Missouri Police were dispatched to the 8000 block of Hickman Mills Drive that night and found Ladhani dead in the parking lot in front of the store.
“The fatal shooting that took the life of someone so cherished in our community is inexcusable and has no place in Jackson County,” said Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson. “Incidents like this one cause our community to come together to share their love and respect for the victim, who gave without hesitation and left a lasting impact on those around him.”

Surveillance video at the store determined three suspects arrived in a white Ford Expedition. Footage inside the store showed two of the suspects, including Herring, armed with guns in plain view.
Court records said one of the suspects appeared to have taken items without paying for them before all the suspects exited the store and got back into the vehicle. Herring is seen getting into the driver’s seat.
Ladhani then exited the store and approached the suspect’s vehicle and pointed a pistol toward it. The suspect then returned the items to the store owner through the window.

As the vehicle drove to exit the parking lot and Ladhani walked back to the front of the store, the vehicle stopped and Herring exited the vehicle and shot in the direction of Ladhani multiple times. Court records said the front enger also shot multiple times from the vehicle. Following the shooting, the Expedition left the scene.
Herring is being held on a $500,000 bond.
