Adoption fees waived as KC Pet Project attempts to avoid heartbreaking decisions
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Adoption fees for all dogs at KC Pet Project have been waived as shelter staff face heartbreaking decisions amid an unprecedented overcrowding crisis.
KC Pet Project announced on Wednesday, Feb. 26, that it faces an unprecedented overcrowding crisis at its KC Campus for Animal Care. Currently, there are 295 dogs that call the shelter home - the highest number staff has ever seen.
In the past three days alone, shelter leaders noted that nearly 80 new dogs entered their doors. Every single kennel - including overflow areas - is full. There is no space for new animals that need help.
Without immediate adoptions or fosters, KC Pet Project said staff will be forced to make heartbreaking decisions on Wednesday.
To fight the crisis, shelter staff said that starting on Wednesday, all adoption fees have been waived for dogs of all ages and sizes. This will last through Sunday, March 2. Puppies, specialty breeds, large and small dogs are all included.
The community can help through adoptions, fostering and sharing the news.
