PRAIRIE VILLAGE, Kan. (KCTV) - Several locations of a popular Mexican restaurant are closed after their assets have been seized by the state of Kansas.

A Salty Iguana location in Prairie Village was closed Friday with signs on the doors from the Kansas Department of Revenue. The same scene could be found in Lawrence after the Kansas Department of Revenue seized assets at the restaurant’s 6th Street location on Wednesday, Feb. 26.

“WARNING: This property has been seized for non-payment of taxes, and is now in the possession of the State of Kansas,” a sign posted on the door at the Prairie Village location read.

The Lawrence location was seized as a result of $103,204.96 in unpaid taxes. The Johnson County location was seized with $102,160.24 in unpaid sales and liquor taxes. Both businesses were owned by Daniel Chandler, Stephen Conrad and Matt Zych, according to records shared by the Kansas Department of Revenue.

“KDOR’s policy and practice is to work with taxpayers in delinquent status to voluntarily enter into repayment agreements,” KDOR said in a press release shared with KCTV on Friday. “It is only after these efforts and multiple failed collection attempts that the Department is forced to execute a tax warrant... to ensure compliance with the law.”

In 2024, an Olathe location for the business closed and several years earlier, a location in Overland Park stopped operations.

Across state lines, the Salty Iguana in Independence, Missouri, remains open.

“We are still here and open running the business,” a restaurant employee confirmed in a call from KCTV on Friday.

Customers, employees or others who may have items at the Lawrence or Prairie Village business are asked to call KDOR at 785-250-5084.
