JOHNSON CO., Kan. (KCTV) - Metro area emergency management agencies are gearing up for National Severe Weather Preparedness Week.
Johnson County, Kansas, Emergency Management says that on Monday, March 3, National Severe Weather Preparedness Week is set to kick off. With spring on the way, severe weather is just around the corner.
Emergency management officials noted that peak tornado months typically run between April and June in Kansas, in the heart of Tornado Alley, however, they can happen as early as March.

- Monday - Having a Plan
- Tuesday - Flooding
- Wednesday - Tornadoes
- Thursday - Wind and Hail
- Friday - Lightining
Emergency leaders also indicated that at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, there will be a countywide NotifyJoCo test. Those who have signed up to receive alerts will receive a message. Residents have been encouraged to sign up for the service HERE.
County officials also said that at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, there will be a statewide tornado drill. A live warning will be broadcast on the NOAA Weather Radio. Residents have been encouraged to practice safety plans during this time.
