LAWRENCE, Kan. (KCTV) - Public transit riders in Lawrence have been asked to share their thoughts on proposed changes to bus routes expected to take effect in August.

Lawrence Transit says that a major bus route redesign has been completed to align with a newly built Central Station. Now, as the system returns to its annual cycle of proposed changes in the spring, community have been asked for - with changes expected to be implemented in August.

Transportation officials noted that the survey, which is expected to close on March 31, has asked for on the following proposed major route changes:

  • Route 1 - Proposed to have a direct connection from Downtown to the Haskell Campus and to have service on both Haskell and Harper Ave.. from 19th to 23rd St.
  • Route 3 - Proposed to serve 9th St. to and from Downtowon to keep access to Heartland Community Health from Michigan St.
  • Route 4 - Proposed to merge exiting Routes 4 and 10 to improve reliability. Buses would no longer take Jayhawk Blvd., but would instead take West Campus Rd. to continue to 6th St. for access to Walmart, Dillons and Free State High School.
  • Route 6 - Proposed to return to serve 6th St. east to west while still serving Centennial Park and the Merc Co-Op. Slight route adjustments would be included near Rock Chalk Park for better timing.
  • Route 8 - Proposed to serve the center of the Haskell Campus to provide better access for riders and return service to 27th St. for closer access to Prairie Park Elementary School. This route is no longer interlined with Route 10 to improve the schedule.
  • Route 11/12 - Adopting a B Schedule to operate on Saturdays, certain holidays and when KU classes are not in session.
