Hardware stores stock up for ‘hopefully’ last winter storm
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Weather across the Kansas City metro is unpredictable, especially in March. The start of 2025 is no different. After reaching the 60s at the beginning of the month, it’s not sticking around for long, winter weather has returned.
Over the past several weeks, KCTV5 has followed hardware stores across the metro, running out of supplies storm after storm. This go around, that’s not necessarily the case.
Before noon on Tuesday, Strasser Hardware in Kansas City, Kansas, had fully stocked shelves and pallets. Employees said the recently stocked ice melt, snow shovels, and cable ties had barely been touched.
It was a similar story at Mack True Value in Mission. The owner, Kelly Mack, said the store is still out of shovels but has a fresh batch of 25 and 50-pound bags of ice melt. He said the real challenge has been juggling winter supplies and spring supplies.
“I’m not sure there’s a way to balance it,” Mack said. “Just trying to figure out moment by moment what you can do, hopefully this is it. I’m ready for spring, as I think most of us are in the area. I’m ready to sell mulch and fertilizer and grass seed, we’re ready for warm weather.”
The First Warn 5 Weather Team has declared Wednesday, March 5, as a First Warn 5 Weather Day.
