INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV) - The closure of an Independence hotel has been directly linked to a reduction in crime near I-70 and Noland Rd.

The Independence, Missouri, Police Department has announced that a 35% reduction in crime was seen in the area of I-70 and Noland Rd. during the month of February. The most notable decreases were in weapons violations, larcenies, burglaries, drug crimes and vehicle thefts.

Department leaders noted that the decrease coincides with the City’s Community Development Department revoking an area hotel’s business license.

Independence Police indicated that the collaboration benefits all residents and businesses. Local businesses have noticed positive changes in the area.

City officials said the closure of the hotel and future closures of problem businesses sends a message that crime will not be tolerated in Independence.
