OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (KCTV) - Just after midnight Wednesday, Overland Park and Lenexa firefighters were called to a house at 89th and Craig Drive about a mile from Shawnee Mission Northwest High School.

First units on the scene reported heavy smoke and fire from the garage of a ranch home.

Firefighters sprayed the house from the outside, knocking down fire in the garage, while additional crews searched the house to confirm no one was inside.

It took crews about 40 minutes to bring the fire under control.

One woman was treated for minor smoke inhalation and minor injuries.

The woman said she was awakened by her smoke alarm. A neighbor helped her outside to safety, and she is now staying with family.

Fire significantly damaged the garage, and the entire home suffered moderate smoke damage.

While it appears the fire may have started from a downed powerline in the rear of the home, the exact cause is under investigation.
