FIRST WARN FORECAST: Snow ends, extreme wind persists in Kansas City area
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Significant wind gusts are beginning to die off as we move into the rest of the afternoon. Snow shower activity is now moved well to the east as well. We are still seeing repercussions though, especially at the airport due to the high wind and low visibility from this morning’s blizzard event and may continue to see major delays or cancellations for the rest of the day.
Luckily, the low pressure system continues to move to the north and east and bits of sunshine will pop in and out throughout the rest of the day today.
The gusts up to 60 mph are no longer expected, we can still continue with gusty conditions ranging between 40 mph and 50 mph through the late afternoon, dying off to gusts at 20 mph by mid this evening. and a High Wind Warning is still in place until 6 p.m.
With that being said, the roads are slushy from the mix of snow and rain activity, any snow that has accumulated will be blowing around and the extreme wind gusts will all cause issues for traveling this morning. These strong winds can also cause downed power lines, branches, etc. Please use extreme caution this morning.
Unfortunately, wind chill values will remain in the teens to mid 20s throughout the day as actual high temperatures only reach the mid 30s. Cloud cover will push out this afternoon and we could see mostly sunny skies by this evening.
The rest of the work week brings the chance for rain on Thursday with the 30% chance for rain/snow overnight and then again on Friday. Temperatures will be on a steady climb from the 40s on Thursday to the 50s on Friday, however, temperatures fall throughout the afternoon.
We finally get quiet and warmer conditions for the weekend. High temperatures in the low 50s to low 60s. The start to next week looks great! Sunshine with highs in the 70s.
