Trees down, power outages have neighbors watching out for one another
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - High winds overnight had many waking up to find their microwave and ovens blinking, if they had power at all.
But this was just the start of headaches for many across the metro as residents worked to dig themselves out and make it to work.
Residents on Brooklyn Ave. in KCMO woke up to a downed tree causing issues.
Neighbors say the homeowner, where the tree fell, was forced to drive through her yard to make it to work with the tree blocking her only other way out.
Just one street over, another tree uprooted overnight missing two homes by just feet.

Renee Ross, who lives across the street, says they lost power for a bit overnight but shared concerns that one of the trees that fell missed a major power line by just inches. However, when it did fall, Ross said it sent sparks through the neighborhood.
Lucky was one word she used to describe what she saw when she woke up.
“That was scary, it was scary to see the transformer blow like that, and then to know the tree fell so close to those wires, thank you Jesus,” Ross said.
While she saw her neighbor struggling to make it out this morning, Ross said she had no worries and that her neighbor would be able to get into her driveway when she returned.
“You better believe our neighbors will come in and they’re gonna get that removed. They’re gonna help her. She’s gonna be shocked when she gets home ‘cause she’s probably at work right now worrying. but our neighbors will get in gear and make sure she’s okay,” Ross said.
