GEORGETOWN, Texas (KCTV) - Charges have been dropped against Chiefs Wide Receiver Xavier Worthy after he was arrested in Texas over the weekend.

Worthy’s attorney, Sam Bassett, confirmed to KCTV5 on Saturday evening that all charges filed against the rising Chiefs star had been dismissed. Information in the court records system had also been recalled.

Bassett noted that the District Attorney chose not to go forward with the case. His office will continue to cooperate.

According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office jail record, 21-year-old Xavier Worthy was arrested on March 7, 2025, in Georgetown, Texas.

Worthy had been booked on one charge of “ASSAULT FAM/HOUSE MEM IMPEDE BREATH/CIRCULAT,” which, according to Texas law, is a third-degree felony assault charge.

The law specifically refers to assault on a family or household member, and “is committed by intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly impeding the normal breathing or circulation of the blood of the person by applying pressure to the person’s throat or neck or by blocking the person’s nose or mouth.”

Worthy’s attorneys — Chip Lewis and Sam Bassett — released a statement on Saturday morning as they said in part that they are “aware of the allegation that led to Mr. Worthy’s arrest.”

They continued in full:

“We are working with law enforcement in Williamson County to ensure they have the benefit of the totality of circumstances that led to this investigation.”

“The complainant was recently asked to vacate Mr. Worthy’s residence upon discovery of her infidelity. She has refused to do so and made a number of extortive efforts prior to resorting to this baseless allegation against Mr. Worthy.

We will continue to cooperate with the Williamson County authorities as we have full faith that their thorough investigation will Mr. Worthy’s innocence.”

Worthy is a wide receiver for the Chiefs. After being selected with the 28th pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, Worthy recorded 59 receptions for 638 yards, 104 rushing yards and 9 total touchdowns as a rookie.

In the playoffs, he became Kansas City’s leading receiver, totaling a team-leading 19 receptions for 287 yards and 3 touchdowns in the Chiefs’ three playoff games.

The Chiefs issued a brief statement Saturday, saying “We are aware and gathering information.”
