Jail time possible for Missouri contractor who failed to gain adequate insurance
WARRENSBURG, Mo. (KCTV) - A Warrensburg contractor could face jail time after he allegedly failed to insure his business for workers’ compensation liability.
Johnson County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Tuesday, March 4, indicate that Justin D. Renfro, 35, of Warrensburg, has been charged for his alleged failure to provide worker’s compensation.
A probable cause statement filed by the Missouri Division of Workers’ Compensation, Fraud and Noncompliance Unit revealed that in October 2021, an employee of Olympus Roofing and Contracting was injured on the job. Renfro was listed as the owner of the company.
Law enforcement officials noted that Renfro failed to complete an injury report for the incident as required, as he did not have workers’ compensation insurance. He allegedly failed to file for workers’ compensation insurance between Nov. 5, 2019, and July 1, 2022.
As a result, Renfro has been charged with failure to insure workers’ compensation liability. If convicted, he could spend up to 1 year behind bars and be forced to pay a $2,000 fine.
A criminal summons was issued to Renfro on Wednesday, with an initial appearance expected to be held at 9 a.m. on April 4. No further information has been released.
