Big 12 Basketball fans take over downtown
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Big 12 basketball has taken over Kansas City and for a longer period than in years past because of the addition of women’s basketball.
Last year, more than 30,000 people watched the tournament championship game at the T-Mobile Center, and that shows that traveling fans are enthusiastic about watching women’s basketball in Kansas City.
Baer and Rachel Bradford got to town last week to their team, TCU. They are season ticket holders and live in Fort Worth, Texas.
“Basketball is really cool, but to watch women who are just so incredible at everything they do, play this incredible sport and be so good at it, like, we’re just so proud every time we watch,” Rachel Bradford said.
TCU beat Baylor in the championship game, 64 to 59, and will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
The couple said one of their favorite things about Kansas City was riding the streetcar around town.
“We’ve been to a bunch of restaurants, wine bars, coffee shops,” Bradford said. “We’ve been trying to bounce around and see as much as we can while we’re here.”
This is the second year in a row that the women’s tournament has been played at the T-Mobile Center. The three years before that, the games were in Kansas City, but at Municipal Auditorium.
The men’s Big 12 basketball tournament begins this Tuesday.
