Firefighters, residents injured during weekend house fire south of Warrensburg
WARRENSBURG, Mo. (KCTV) - Two firefighters and two residents were injured as a house south of Warrensburg was reduced to rubble during a weekend blaze.
The Johnson County, Missouri, Fire Protection District says that just before 10:35 a.m. on Sunday, March 9, emergency crews were called to a home in the 300 block of SE 251 Rd. with reports of a house fire.
First responders indicated that two individuals were reportedly still inside the burning building. When they arrived, they learned that both were able to make it outside.
Meanwhile, crews noted that the house was engulfed in flames. As they began the attack, two firefighters inside the home were injured. They were able to make it to safety as they were treated and released at the scene.
“Two males who were inside the house when the fire started were transported from the scene by ambulance for their injuries related to the fire,” said Captain Joe Jennings. “We don’t have an update on them after they were transported.”
District leaders indicated that four stations responded to extinguish the blaze, which took about an hour to bring under control.
Following the agency’s untimely loss of t. Vernon Collett on Saturday, t. Jennings noted that crews continue to push through.
“Our personnel are still showing up, still putting in the work—even in the face of loss,” Jennings continued. “They push forward because that’s what they do—for each other, for the community, and for those we’ve lost. They’ve been together all weekend ing each other and that just continued onto another fire scene today.”
Investigators said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
