Governor denounces attacks of religious symbols
TOPEKA, Kan. (KCTV) - All events scheduled at the Kansas Statehouse surrounding a planned Black Mass have been moved outside in response to protestors’ concerns.
Black Mass” scheduled at the Statehouse between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on March 28 - and she shares them.
“There are more constructive ways to protest and express disagreement without insulting or denigrating sacred religious symbols,” Gov. Kelly said.
However, as Governor, Kelly noted that she also has a duty to protect protestors’ constitutional rights, regardless of how offensive or distasteful she may find the content to be. Therefore, the Governor’s Office has limited authority to respond to such actions.
The Governor indicated that she believes it is more important to keep the Statehouse open and accessible to the public. Therefore, all events planned for March 28 have been moved outdoors to the grounds that surround the Kansas Capitol.
Specifically, Kelly said no protests would be allowed inside the Statehouse that day.
The move follows a petition started by TFP Student Action with more than 22,000 signatures that urged Gov. Kelly to cancel the Black Mass scheduled by the Satanic Grotto.
The Satanic group described the event as a dedication of the grounds and legislature “to the glory of Satan.” will perform rites and indulge in “sacrilegious blaspheme.”
The Kansas Catholic Conference has urged the state’s faithful to pray for the conversion of those who take part.
