PRAIRIE VILLAGE, Kan. (KCTV) - An infant continues to fight for their life after a pit bull was put down as the result of a dog bite in Prairie Village.

The Prairie Village, Kansas, Police Department says that around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, emergency crews were called to Children’s Mercy Hospital after an infant was brought in with life-threatening injuries.

Hospital staff told law enforcement officials that the infant remained in critical condition as the result of a dog bite. The incident was found to have happened earlier in the evening in the area of Tomahawk and W. 72nd Terr.

Investigators noted that the infant was found to have been under the eye of a caregiver that was not a parent. The dog, a pit bull, was seized at the owner’s request and euthanized as a result.

Currently, law enforcement officials noted that there is no threat to the public, and everyone involved continues to cooperate with the investigation. As of Friday afternoon, the infant remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Law enforcement officials have requested that the privacy of the family be respected. The investigation into the incident remains under investigation.
