Longtime Royals outfielder Alex Gordon elected to team’s Hall of Fame
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - One of the heroes of the 2015 World Series and most decorated defensive players in Royals history has received one of the team’s highest honors.
The Kansas City Royals announced on Friday morning that Alex Gordon has been elected into the Royals Hall of Fame.
“My family and I are beyond grateful and humbled,” Gordon said in a release. “I’ve said this before but my heart has always and will always be with the Royals. All I ever thought about was working as hard as I could, and being the best teammate I could. The memories we made will stick with me forever, and this incredible honor is a reflection of our amazing teammates, coaches, trainers, staff and fans in Kansas City.”
The Royals will hold a pre-game ceremony on the field before the team’s home game at Kauffman Stadium against the Athletics on Friday, June 13.

Gordon, a first-round pick out of the University of Nebraska, earned the Golden Spikes award as the top amateur baseball player in the country. He vaulted through the minor leagues and made the Opening Day roster in 2007, starting at third base.
He struggled in the big leagues his first three seasons, and the Royals eventually demoted him to the minor leagues to learn left field. In his first full season playing the new position with the Royals in 2011, Gordon had one of his most productive seasons. He his 23 home runs, drove in 87 runs, carried a .303 batting average and a, .879 OPS. He also earned his first of what would be an 8-Gold Glove-winning career.
Gordon is likely most known for his game-tying solo home run in the 9th inning of Game 1 of the 2015 World Series. He would amass 10 doubles in his postseason career (2014-2015), good enough for second in team history.

He is just one of six players to play at least 14 seasons with the Kansas City Royals. He was selected to the American League All-Star Team three times and started the 2015 mid-summer classic.
“Alex has been and always will be one of the most respected Royals ever,” Royals general manager J.J. Picollo said in a statement. “Nobody prepared the way he did and his work ethic couldn’t be matched. We will always the big homer in Game 1 of the World Series in 2015, but his teammates will always the level of professionalism he brought to our clubhouse. This is a well deserved and much anticipated honor for Alex.”
