12 deaths, 19 tornados in Missouri following intense storm system

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - State officials report that 12 people have died as a result of an estimated 19 tornado outbreak across Missouri.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol has listed 12 people to have died in connection to multi-tornado storms that blew across the Midwest Friday night. The number of tornadoes that Gov. Mike Kehoe says is around 19, according to a preliminary investigation.
As of Saturday, the Missouri State Highway Patrol has reported deaths by counties, but little information about specific cases has been released. Currently, reports stand at:
- Ozark County: 3
- Butler County: 1
- Wayne County: 6
- Jefferson County: 1
- St. Louis County: 1
The death in Jefferson County was that of a St. Charles woman and happened in a weather-related vehicle crash. The St. Louis County death is currently under investigation, but preliminary reports indicate it was due to a downed power line.
Kehoe said Sunday that 27 counties in Missouri were impacted by the storm. Damage assessments after the sun rose on Saturday showed homes and buildings across the state destroyed.
In an update on Sunday, Kehoe said one person is still missing after the storms.
As of Sunday afternoon, thousands of people across the state were also without power.
Hundreds of homes, schools and businesses across the state have been destroyed or severely damaged, according to the Governor’s office.
“The scale of devastation across our state is staggering,” Kehoe said. “While we grieve the lives of those lost, we are also focused on action—getting power restored, clearing debris, and ensuring our communities have the resources they need to recover. The strength and resilience of Missourians are already on display, and we will be with them every step of the way.”
Along with storm damage, 130 wildland fires broke out across the state, including several fires in the St. Louis region.
