ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV/Gray News) – A woman was killed when she was electrocuted by downed power lines following severe storms in St. Louis County over the weekend.

Officials are considering it a storm-related death.

St. Louis County police responded around 12:15 a.m. Saturday to the home regarding a possible electrocution. When they arrived, officers found a woman in the backyard of her home near electrical lines. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim was identified late Saturday by her fiancé as 43-year-old Jennifer Brewington.

Police say it appears that Brewington was in her backyard assessing possible storm damage when she encountered a downed power line.

In a news release, officials reminded the community to exercise caution around power lines.

“We are deeply saddened to confirm this death due to Friday’s severe weather,” County Executive Sam Page said. “This heartbreaking tragedy underscores that downed power lines are extremely dangerous, and they are not always visible.”

At least 19 tornadoes hit Missouri late Friday night into Saturday morning.

Brewington’s death was added to the Missouri Highway Patrol list of storm-related fatalities in the state, which now stands at 12.

Brewington is listed as the only fatality in St. Louis County.
