FIRST WARN WEATHER DAY: High wind, rain and snow hit the Kansas City area today

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A new update to the winter weather has come down the line and some good news is being pushed into the forecast.
It is more likely that temperatures are going to be less conducive for frozen precipitation, which means we will see much less snowfall and even a winter mix through the area. It is not fully shower activity however snowfall amounts have dialed back greatly across the region now more likely to see a trace to half an inch of accumulation in certain areas of the metro.

With that being said, there seems to be a better threat for showers and thunderstorms to occur. Severe weather is still lacking through the region, overall but heavy downpours and frequent lightning accompanied by what is still expected to be exceptionally high wind will be common. This still makes the storm system dangerous to navigate, especially between the afternoon and early evening.
New model data indicates rain and even isolated thunderstorms could occur as early as lunchtime noon. Please take extreme caution if you plan on being on the roads during the afternoon into the evening rush hour.
Rest of the Week
Temperatures are still expected to fall moving into the overnight with morning low temperatures Thursday in the upper 20s and lower 30s. With these gusty conditions expected to expand until mid-morning Thursday, feels-like temperatures during the morning commute are more likely to be in the teens.
The wind will decrease to just a steady 5-15 mph wind by 9 a.m. with partly sunny skies through the day. Temperatures will increase to near average featuring in the lower 50s.

We will rebound to low and middle 60s by Friday and continue this into the weekend. There are small opportunities for some isolated showers Friday, but more likely heavy cloud coupler will be common over rainfall.

By Sunday, a better disturbance lifts out of the south, providing most of our southern counties up to I 70 with scattered showers and potentially a weak thunderstorm. We do not anticipate severe weather at this time and the rain risk remains more of a morning event rather than all day or during the afternoon.
