ST. LOUIS (KMOV/Gray News) – A mom in St. Louis County is facing several charges after she allegedly left her four young children home alone during Friday night’s severe weather.

Crystal Ray is accused of leaving her four children, ages 8, 5, 3 and 8 months, unsupervised in a St. Ann home during the severe weather.

Charging documents state that the children were upset and that Ray left while the tornado sirens were going off.

According to police, the children were left alone for several hours. During the time they were alone, there were brush fires, power outages, downed power lines and significant debris in their area.

Police said a concerned family member alerted them that the children were alone.

When police ed Ray, she reportedly showed signs of intoxication. When she was arrested, she wrestled with the officers and hit and kicked them, police said.

Ray is charged with four counts of endangering the welfare of children, creating substantial risk, and one count of resisting arrest.
